Soak up fresh country air in Moorabool

Enjoy the scenery as you tour the countryside, sampling the region’s best local produce.

From picking fruit among rolling hills and strolling picturesque historic villages with charm, to medieval adventures at Kryal Castle and discovering the freshest produce direct from the farmer, there’s so much to discover in Moorabool.

Explore

Experience the thundering drama of the joust as knights and their magnificent mounts face each other in the Kryal Castle arena.
Then try your hand at axe throwing and archery before signing up for a photo to capture the moment you became king or queen for the day.

Towards the end of every summer, the Britt family open the gates to their Dunnstown farm for their annual Pick Your Own Sunflower weekends. As the leaves start to fall it’s time for the Ballan Autumn Festival.

Pick up produce straight from the farm at The Farmgate in Elaine or pick your own fruit in Bacchus Marsh.

If you’d prefer someone cook for you, there’s plenty of country pubs to check out, including the Wallace Hotel or the Blackwood Hotel which some say is haunted.

For wine and cheese platters you can’t go past St Anne’s Winery in Myrniong.

And if beer is more your thing then you’ll love The Local Taproom in Bacchus Marsh.

Wander outdoors

Home to picturesque landscapes, forests, national parks, mineral springs and gorges, there’s plenty of wide open spaces just waiting to be explored.

Take a short drive and snap a photo of cascading water at Lal Lal Falls. A popular picnic spot for locals over the last 130 years, the 34-metre gorge is also one of Victoria’s most significant cultural sites. Situated on the traditional Wadawurrung country, Lal Lal Falls is believed to be the earthly home of Bunjil (the All Father or creator to most Victorian Aboriginal tribes) and its name is thought to be Aboriginal for “dashing of waters”.

For anyone who likes a good hike, we highly recommend the Werribee Gorge (which has been described as one of the best walking trails in Australia).

Get closer to nature and stay night under the stars. Check into The Garden of St Erth and glamp in the secluded Wombat State Forest, or opt for a farm stay at Graze Ballan and savor in the region’s finest food and beverages from the comfort of this vintage sixties-inspired caravan.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities.

These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years.

As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
