Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail #2: The full length

Ready for an off road adventure?

It’s time to load up on carbs, what better way to start at Webster’s Cafe.

From there, we are heading straight out of town, past the Arch of Victory before taking a left on to the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail.

Immerse yourself in the serenity of Australia’s native flora and fauna at the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail.

Leave behind the stresses of your day as you meander through the wide open grasslands, eucalypt forests, historic bridges and quaint 19th-century villages.

There are plenty of great places to stop along the way and birdwatch or take a picnic with you and take full advantage of alfresco dining.

You will be well rewarded on this epic journey and it’s time to treat yourself with a hot or cold drink at the Ballarat Yacht Club.

Distance: 118.81km
Elevation gain: 964m
Ride type: Unsealed; crushed granite sand that may become boggy when wet. A mountain bike or hybrid bike with 30mm tyres is recommended.
Start: Webster’s Cafe

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities.

These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years.

As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
